Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes (48-40) scored early and held on late for a 9-6 victory and a series split against the Oklahoma RedHawks (44-44) Thursday night at Isotopes Park. Matt Padgett and Derek Wathan each homered as the âTopes scored eight of their nine runs in the first three innings.
Padgett's home run, a two-run shot, keyed a four-run first inning and Wathan's three-run blast gave Albuquerque an 8-3 lead. Ariel Prieto (6-4) benefited from the âTopes' offensive explosion by picking up the win despite allowing six runs, five earned, through five innings. Jim Crowell, who was recently selected to play in next Wednesday's Triple All-Star game in Sacramento, pitched the final two innings to earn his sixth save of the season; his first since April 13.
Albuquerque wasted little time getting to RedHawks starter John Hudgins (2-5) in the first inning. Eric Reed led off with a bunt single, stole second, moved to third on a ground out, and crossed the plate on a base hit by Joe Dillon, who reached base four times Thursday night with three hits and a walk. Padgett followed with his 14th home run of the season; an opposite-field shot that made the score 3-0. A walk to Jason Wood and a base hit by Todd Sears put runners on first and second for Wilson Delgado, who came through with a single to right field that scored Wood.
The âTopes scored another run on a ground out by Padgett before Oklahoma got on the board when Ian Kinsler drilled a three-run homer off the scoreboard in left field. But the Isotopes got all three runs back in the home half to built an 8-3 advantage.
Wilson Delgado drew a one-out walk to get things rolling for Albuquerque in the third and moved to second base on a base hit by Ryan Jorgensen. The next batter, Wathan, hammered a three-run shot to right field that helped to chase Hudgins from the game. The RedHawks struck again with another three-run inning, this time in the sixth on an RBI-double by Kinsler, a run-scoring single by Jason Botts, and ground out by Adrian Gonzalez with a runner on third base, that cut the âTopes' lead to 8-5.
Padgett drove in his fourth run of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.
The Isotopes will continue their homestand Friday night with the first game of a three-game set against the Memphis Redbirds at 7:05. The âTopes are scheduled to send right-handed pitcher Travis Smith (2-3, 6.60) to the hill against Redbirds righty Kevin Jarvis (6-2, 3.03). Come see the Zooperstars! in their second and final visit to Isotopes Park in 2005, presented by Arby's. Tickets are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, and Ticketmaster by phone at 883-7800.
