\'Birds slip past Royals, 8-7

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead and held on to win 8-7. The win completed the four-game sweep of Omaha. It's the first four-game sweep for the Redbirds this season.

SS John Nelson got the big hit with a two RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the ‘Birds up 8-7. Memphis scored all eight of their runs in a three inning span, scoring three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and three more in the seventh. With the bases loaded in the fifth C Mike Mahoney cleared them with a double to put the ‘Birds on the board. DH Tim Hummel hit a two-run homer in the sixth to the game at 5-5. It was Hummel's first home run as a Redbird.

Reliever Randy Flores earned the win with 1.2 perfect innings of work out of the bullpen. RHP Mark Nussbeck earned the save, despite not retiring a batter. Pinch runner Adrian Brown was caught stealing to end the game. Starter Adam Wainwright gave up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits with four K's in 6.1 innings. Shane Nance took the loss for the Royals, giving up three runs on three hits in only one inning.

Memphis hits the road for the final time before the All-Star break with a trip to Albuquerque beginning tomorrow. RHP Kevin Jarvis (6-2) will make the start for Memphis against RHP Travis Smith (2-3) for the Isotopes. Game time is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CST.
