TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Albuquerque Isotopes are the Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 2003. The team was previously the Calgary Cannons before moving to Albuquerque after the 2002 season. A team known as the Albuquerque Dukes played in the PCL from 1972-2000 before moving to Portland.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks finish their four-game series with Albuquerque . They will play a three-game series with Omaha starting Friday. The RedHawks are 4-8 on Thursdays and 12-9 in the last game of a series. The RedHawks are going for their first series win since they took three of four from Albuquerque June 4-7.
STANDINGS: The RedHawks are in second place, three games behind Albuquerque .
LAST GAME: The RedHawks scored six in the sixth and seven in the seventh to beat Albuquerque 18-5. It was the largest margin of victory this year for the RedHawks and tied for the third-most runs in RedHawk history. Gerald Laird went four-for-five with a home run and six RBIs. Esteban German went four-for-six with three RBIs. R.A. Dickey pitched a complete game for the RedHawks.
VS. ALBUQUERQUE: The RedHawks are 11-4 against the Isotopes and 5-2 in Albuquerque this season. The RedHawks can break the club record for most wins against one team in a season with a win tonight. The RedHawks were 11-5 against the Omaha Royals in 2003. Esteban German is batting .458 [27-for-59] with 24 runs and 18 RBIs against the Isotopes this season. He has eight multi-hit games [three 2-hit, three 3-hit, two 4-hit] and six multi-RBI games [four 2-RBI, one 3-RBI, one 5 RBI] against them. The RedHawks have out-scored the Isotopes 125-79 this year.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Oklahoma's John Hudgins makes his team-leading 15th start for the RedHawks this year. Hudgins gets an average of 2.3 support runs per start, even after receiving four support runs in each of his last three starts [all no decisions]. Hudgins' last win was May 25 when he pitched a seven-inning complete game against Colorado Springs. Ariel Prieto makes his third start and fifth appearance against Oklahoma this season. He is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA against them and has given up home runs to Esteban German and Jason Botts.
STREAKERS: Outfielder Jason Conti is on a six-game hitting streak dating back to June 26. He is 10-for-25 [.400] with three RBIs during the streak. Outfielder Jason Botts is on an eight-game hitting streak dating back to June 28. He is 12-for-29 [.413] with six doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs during the streak. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is on a six-game hitting streak dating back to June 1. He is 11-for-27 [.407] with nine RBIs during the streak.
ADRIAN GONZALEZ: First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is 18-for-42 [.429] with three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs in 11 games since returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for 12 games. In three seasons, Gonzalez is batting .327 [48-for-147] in 36 games at Isotopes Park as a member of the Isotopes in 2003 and as a RedHawk in 2004 and 2005. In his career, he has eight doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 43 RBIs and 35 runs scored at the stadium. In two seasons against them, he is batting .319 [38-for-119] in 29 games. He has six doubles, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and 25 runs scored against them. He has three multi-homer games [two 2-HR, one 3-HR] against them.
TRANSACTIONS: Relief pitcher Matt Roney joins the RedHawks after being signed and outrighted by the Rangers. Roney was 1-1-3 with a 0.95 ERA in 14 games for Toledo of the International League ... Relief pitcher Agustin Montero was transfered to Double-A Fristo ... The Rangers called up third baseman Marshall McDougall ... Shortstop Jace Brewer has been activated from the DL.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: RedHawks Esteban German, Ian Kinsler, and Gerald Laird have been selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and will play in the Triple-A All-Star Game July 13 in Sacramento , Calif. ... Manager Bobby Jones was named a coach for the World team for the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game July 10 in Detroit. He will also be the Pacific Coast League hitting coach for the Triple-A All-Star Game.
