Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TONIGHT: The Royals and Redbirds meet at AutoZone Park in Memphis for their final meeting of the 2005 regular season. Air-time is 6:45 on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
LAST NIGHT: Chris Gissell's arm and John Gall's bat led the Redbirds to their third straight win over the Royals, a 5-1 victory. Gissell pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, carrying a shutout into the 9th before Cory Aldridge's RBI single gave Omaha its only run. Gall drove in four runs, two coming on a 4th inning homer and another pair scoring on a double that chased Kyle Snyder (0-2) with two away in the 5th. Aaron Guiel had a pair of doubles and scored the Royals lone run.
ROYALS REPORT: The Royals have lost eight of their last nine games, including five straight on the road, matching the club's longest road losing streak of the season. During the nine-game stretch, Omaha's team batting average is .218 and the Royals have been outscored 37-17. *** Last night's game took only 2:06, matching the shortest nine-inning game this season -- a 2-1 Royals win at Memphis on April 25. *** If Memphis sweeps the four-game series tonight, the Redbirds join Albuquerque as the only opponent to do it this season. Memphis would also match the âTopes season series dominance, going 12-4 and equaling the Royals worst 16-game season series since the club joined the PCL in 1998. *** Snyder's ERA for his first four rehab assignment starts was 1.84. It stands at 3.72 following his outing last night. *** Adrian Brown is riding a five-game hit string. The PCL All-Star outfielder is hitting .381 (8-21) during the streak. *** Jeremy Affeldt has reportedly wrapped up his rehab appearance with Omaha and according to www.kcroyals.com should be activated by KC prior to this weekend. *** Santiago Ramirez, who pitched a scoreless 8th inning last night, has a 1.80 ERA (2 ER in 10.0 IP) and all four of his saves over his last nine appearances. *** Luis Ugueto's Momma might be crying, as he's in a 2-for-22 (.091) slide at the plate. *** Guiel has smacked six homers and owns a .314 average (16-51) over the past 13 contests.
STARTERS: LH Chris George (6-5, 4.65) vs. RH Adam Wainwright (6-6, 3.40) George makes his 16th start (18th appearance) of the season. The 25-year old lefty's last start was a tough-luck 2-1 loss last Saturday vs. Albuquerque, when he notched a career-high eleven K's (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 HR). His two previous appearances came in relief, due to a number of KC pitchers rehabbing with Omaha. Over his last six games (four starts), George is 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA. In 3 starts vs. Memphis, he's 0-2 with an 8.62 ERA. George is 6-0 with a 3.93 ERA on the road, while going 0-5 and posting a 5.58 ERA at home. In 2004, he went 8-6 with a 3.42 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) for Omaha and was 1-2 with a 7.23 ERA in 10 games (7 starts) for KC. George was selected by KC as a sandwich pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds (31st overall) of the 1998 draft out of Klein (TX) HS.
PROBABLES FOR SERIES VS. OKLAHOMA:
Fri., 7:05: RH Josh Rupe (1-3, 9.74) vs. RH Dennis Tankersley (5-6, 4.80)
Sat., 6:05: LH Ryan Snare (1-3, 5.80) vs. RH Shawn Camp (2-6, 4.78)
