Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Red Patterson struck out five batters over the final two innings to preserve the Albuquerque Isotopes fourth straight victory, 6-4, over the Oklahoma City Redhawks on Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Isotopes (48-37) have won 14 of their last 19 games, reached a season-best 11 games over .500, and are now tied for first place with the Round Rock Express in the PCL's American Southern Division.
Patterson, a spot starter for most of June, retired all six batters he faced to pickup his first save of the season and second of his career.
Dee Gordon manufactured the game's first run. He reached on an error, stole second, stole third and scored on an errant throw by catcher Cody Clark. Gordon is tied with OKC's Jonathan Villar for the stolen base in the PCL with 27 each. Gordon had two hits, scored three runs, and his speed essentially forced three errors by the Redhawks.
After driving in 29 runs in June, Chili Buss continued his hot hitting on the first day of July, singling home a run in the first and fifth innings.
Matt Angle singled home runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Angle was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, his 14th stolen base of the season, and he took over the team lead with his seventh outfield assist of the season.
Starting pitcher Aaron Laffey (4-3) scattered nine hits and three walks over six innings. He allowed three runs in the fifth innings, including back-to-back home runs by Brandon Laird and George Springer.
Anthony Ortega allowed a run in the eighth on a Jonathan Singleton RBI single to left, after Springer walked and stole second base.
Game two of the three-game series is Tuesday with Rob Rasmussen starting for Albuquerque and Asher Wojciechowski on the mound for Oklahoma City. First pitch will be at 6:05 MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
