OMAHA, Nebraska - Max Ramirez singled to score Chris Getz in the twelfth inning to deliver the Omaha Storm Chasers a 2-1 win at Werner Park on Monday night.
The Zephyrs continued their seven game road trip and are struggling offensively. The Z's have dropped four of the first five on the trip and have fallen to seven games out of first place. The Z's managed one run on four hits in the loss on Monday.
Omaha scored an unearned run in the first inning. The Chasers scored a run on three hits and two Zephyr errors. Ramirez two out single scored Anthony Seratelli to take a 1-0 lead.
The Zephyrs were no-hit through six innings. In the seventh Gil Velazquez doubled and Jake Smolinski followed him with a double to tie the game.
Getz led off the twelfth inning with a walk advanced to second base on sacrifice and scored on the Ramirez single. The left fielder Smolinski came up firing and ended up hitting the runner with baseball as he crossed home plate.
The Zephyrs had thrown out two runners at the plate in the first inning of the game.
Michael Mariot earned the win pitching a scoreless top of the inning. Chris Hatcher suffered the loss pitching two plus innings.
The Zephyrs fall to 41-44 with the loss.
Game Notes - The Zephyrs were limited to four hits and had 19 strikeouts in the loss. The season high was 21 on June 1 in Iowa. The Zephyrs are now 8-2 in extra inning contests. The Z's have dropped four consecutive on Canada day and are 9-15 all-time.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Storm Chasers meet in the second game of the three game set. New Orleans will start RH Jared Rogers (2-2, 6.18) against Omaha RH Yordani Ventura (2-1, 4.94). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket"
