Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - With the much needed recent rains and the Colorado Springs Fire Departments' announcement that the commercial fireworks ban has been lifted for the city of Colorado Springs, t he Colorado Springs Sky Sox are excited to announce that their Independence Weekend Fireworks Shows will continue this week as planned for July 4th, 5th and 6th. In addition, for the first time in over 10 years The Famous San Diego Chicken will be in Colorado Springs and will be added to the in-game festivities for the Sky Sox games on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5. Tickets are already going fast and fans are encouraged to get their tickets as soon as possible for this amazing weekend celebration. Tickets are available online at www.skysox.com, via phone at (719) 591-7699 or in person at the Sky Sox box office.
Previously, The Chicken had decided to take a summer sabbatical from his national tour, his first in 39 years, but has agreed to bust out of his shell and head to Colorado Springs and entertain Sky Sox fans on these two exclusive nights. The Chicken has vowed to stay after each game to sign an autograph for everyone in attendance.
"We are beyond excited to have the one and only San Diego Chicken come to Security Service Field," said Sky Sox President and General Manager Tony Ensor. "Many of our fans saw him as a teen or young adult and now have the opportunity to bring their own children to see the greatest entertainer in baseball history. A whole new generation of Colorado Springs fans will get the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness The Famous San Diego Chicken."
The Famous Chicken, also known commonly as The San Diego Chicken, has reached icon status as a sports and entertainment personality throughout the nation and the world. In his element as an outrageous comic actor, he's as unique and gifted a humorist as any stage has ever seen. Perhaps in another era, the role of The Chicken could've been played by Harpo Marx, Peter Sellers, Andy Kaufman or other physical comedians. Still, there'd be debate if even those comic greats could've pulled off the live performances in a real world setting that Ted Giannoulas crafts every night he covers himself in costume. His impact is such that The Sporting News editors named him as one of The Top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports of the 20th Century. He's on a list that includes Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Pete Rozelle, Ted Turner and Wayne Gretzky among others. Moreover, he has played to more than sixty million people in live attendances-a feat which ranks with the likes of the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson and the late Bob Hope.
