Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

MEMPHIS -- Jonathan Sanchez pitched five scoreless innings and Kelvin De La Cruz recorded the save for the second straight game as the Albuquerque Isotopes continued their domination of the Memphis Redbirds with a 5-3 win at Auto Zone Park. After dropping the first game of this four-game series, the Isotopes (47-37) won the next three games and finished the season series with a 13-3 record against Memphis. The Topes are a season-high 10 games over .500.

Sanchez, in his second start for the Topes, allowed three hits and four walks, but struck out five. He stranded six runners and got some help from right fielder Alex Castellanos, who took away a home run from Chris Swauger in the second inning, making a juggling catch after the ball popped out of his glove.

The Topes scratched for most of their runs. Matt Angle was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score in the second inning. Justin Sellers doubled home a run, and scored on Damaso Espino's sacrifice fly in the third inning.

Angle brought home a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning for a 4-0 lead. In the ninth, Chili Buss doubled home Castellanos.

Geison Aguasviva pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. After two straight singles in the eighth inning, Josh Wall replaced Aguasviva. Jermaine Curtis' sacrifice fly scored Memphis' first run.

In the ninth, Memphis loaded the bases on two Wall walks and a single. Greg Garcia scored a run on a fielder's choice groundout, and Brock Peterson singled home a run to make it 5-3.

Isotopes manager Lorenzo Bundy brought in De La Cruz, with the tying run at first base and the winning run at the plate. Jamie Romak popped out to the shortstop Sellers to end the game.

The Isotopes continued their road trip Monday with the opener of a three-game series against Oklahoma City. Aaron Laffey starts for the Topes, while the Redhawks will send Jarred Cosart to the mound. First pitch will be at 6:05 MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
