Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Right-hander Scott Richmond turned in a masterpiece, allowing just one run over 6.1 innings as the Round Rock Express (48-36) clipped the New Orleans Zephyrs (41-43) 5-1 in the series finale.

The E-Train starter dazzled throughout the night, setting down the first seven batters he faced en route to his third quality start of the season. His outing was backed by timely hitting from the Express offense as a late scoring spree helped Round Rock to the series victory.

For the first time in the four-game set, the Express was first to plate a run as second baseman Yangervis Solarte put Round Rock on top 1-0 with a RBI single in the bottom of the first.

Richmond continued his dominance on the mound, holding the Zephyrs to just three hits over the first five innings but New Orleans found its way to the scoreboard in the sixth. First baseman Joe Mahoney knocked in third baseman Donovan Solano on the fifth hit of the evening for the Z's to tie the game at one apiece.

Richmond pitched into the seventh but exited the game with one out and runners on second and third. Reliever Wilmer Font was called upon to make his Express debut after being promoted from Frisco a day earlier. The hard-throwing right-hander forced a ground out with a drawn-in infield for the second out and then fanned Solano to end the frame and keep the game knotted at one.

The Express started a rally of its own in the bottom half of the seventh when designated hitter Jared Hoying and first baseman Mike Bianucci singled with one out. After a fly out, catcher Jose Felix stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to put the E-Train ahead 2-1. Shortstop Leury Garcia followed with a two-run triple to give the Round Rock bullpen breathing room as the Express grabbed a 4-1 lead.

Right-hander Joakim Soria took over in the eighth and retired the side in order, throwing eight strikes on 11 pitches in his second rehab appearance with the Express.

Bianucci tacked on one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, singling in third baseman Mike Olt who doubled two batters earlier, making the score 5-1.

Ben Rowen finished off the top of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning to close out the win. Font (1-0) picked up the victory in relief while New Orleans starter Duane Below (4-3) was tagged with the loss.

The Express begins a three-game road trip in Nashville Monday night with the first pitch in the series opener slated for 7:05 p.m. Round Rock will send southpaw Ryan Feierabend (4-2, 3.90 ERA) to the mound against the Sounds. The E-Train will return home to begin a seven-game homestand on Thursday, July 4 against the Omaha Storm Chasers. The first three games of that series will be Red, White and Blue Weekend at Dell Diamond, featuring post-game fireworks following all three contests.
