Today's Game: The RedHawks close out their five-game series and play their final game at Greer Stadium in 2013 at 6:35 p.m. Oklahoma City enters the finale leading the series, 3-1, and searching for a fourth-straight win.
Last Game: RedHawks starting pitcher Brad Peacock threw a season-high seven innings and shut out the Sounds over his final six frames in a 6-4 win Saturday at Greer Stadium. Peacock (3-2) turned in his fourth-straight quality start and only one of the two runs he allowed was earned. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts while walking one Nashville batter. Nashville led 2-1 after three innings, but the RedHawks jumped in front for good after a two-run, two-out single by Che-Hsuan Lin in the fourth inning. OKC plated two more in the fifth and another in the sixth. After having none on and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Nashville scored twice and brought the tying run to the plate before OKC pitcher Wade LeBlanc retired the final batter to end the game and earn his first career save.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Philip Humber will look to continue to build off two consecutive strong starts...On Monday he threw a season-high seven innings against Omaha at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. He allowed just one earned run (three total) on six hits, struck out three and walked one. Humber retired the side on seven or less pitches three times. However he was saddled with a loss as the Redhawks fell, 3-2. ...Including a start in New Orleans on June 19, Humber has allowed one earned run and nine hits over his last 12 innings...While with the RedHawks, Humber has split time between the starting rotation and bullpen. He's been more effective as a starter posting a 3.55 ERA (5 R, 7 H, in 3.2 IP in relief)...In eight of his nine appearances, Humber has allowed two earned runs or less and he's allowed four or fewer hits six times...Over his career, Humber has made eight appearances (seven starts) against the Sounds and is 4-3 with a 3.65 ERA. His last meeting with them came on July 30, 2010 with Omaha when he tossed a four-hit shutout.
Against the Sounds: 2013: 9-2 2012: 13-3 All-time: 136-115 In NAS: 64-63
After dropping the very first game between the teams this season, the RedHawks have won nine of their last 10 games against the Sounds...The RedHawks have held the Sounds to two runs or less in six of 11 meetings, limiting the Sounds to a .212 average...In their previous trip to Greer Stadium, the RedHawks won two of three in a rain-shortened, three-game series. It was a low-scoring series, with the two teams putting up 13 runs combined (OKC-8, NAS-5)...In 2012 the RedHawks dominated the season series, winning 13 of 16 games, including six of eight in Nashville...The RedHawks pitching staff posted an outstanding 2.67 ERA...OKC has claimed the season series in four of the last five years.
Connect Four: The RedHawks have won three straight games for the first time this month and tonight they will seek their first four-game win streak since May 27-June 1. With three wins over the past two days, the team has won three straight in the same road series for just the second time this year and the first time since April 5-7 in Memphis. The RedHawks have won four consecutive road games once this season (April 9-10 in Nashville, April 20-211 in Albuquerque).
Road Offense Roundabout: The RedHawks have plated 16 runs over the last 17 innings of this series. Before this recent stretch, their previous 16 runs on the road came over 65 innings. The have scored at least six runs in back-to-back road games for the first time since May 21-22 in Fresno.
The Laird Up There: Brandon Laird is 9-for-16 with four doubles during his current five-game hitting streak, one shy of his season high. He has notched multi-hit games in four straight for the second time this season (April 12-15). In June, Laird leads the team in both home runs (5) and RBI (14), and he is tied for the team lead in doubles (8).
Villar Who Villar: Jonathan Villar has hit safely over in each of his last five games, going 9-for-21 with four multi-hit games and four RBI. His .317 average, four home runs, and 10 extra-base hits are all personal monthly bests this season. The shortstop leads the league with 27 stolen bases and ranks third with 80 games played.
20/20 Vision: George Springer stole his first base since moving up to Triple-A last night, upping his season total to 24. He is the only player in all of professional baseball this season to hit 20 home runs and steal at least 20 bases. The only other player relatively close is Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies (21 HR/15 SB), and the next-highest stolen base total among players in the minors with 20+ HR is nine (Miguel Sano of AA-New Britain).
Starting Line: Over the last 14 games, the RedHawks starting rotation has posted a 2.18 ERA (21 ER/86.2 IP). In the last 19 games, OKC starting pitchers have allowed one or no earned runs 10 times, with 12 quality starts.
Saving the Day: By retiring pinch-hitter Hunter Morris to end last night's game, Wade LeBlanc earned his first career save in what was his 223rd career appearance. Primarily a starter throughout his career, it was even LeBlanc's first career save opportunity. He became the seventh different RedHawk to earn a save this year and the third to notch the first one of his career (John Ely, Eric Berger).
Monthly Matters: The RedHawks enter tonight's contest 14-15 in June and need a win to break even. A loss would mean just their second losing month over their last 10 full months of action spread out over the past three seasons. Win or lose, the RedHawks are guaranteed to finish .500 or better on the road for the second time in the first three months of the season.
Final Exam: Oklahoma City is 13-7 overall in series finales this season, including 4-6 on the road.
