Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers were the victims of a strong start delivered by pitcher Jacob deGrom in a 4-1 loss to the Las Vegas 51s at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.
The right-hander deGrom limited the Rainiers to one run on three hits over seven innings and retired the final 15 batters he faced. He struck out four batters and issued one walk en route to collecting his first win with Las Vegas this season.
The 51s pulled ahead 2-0 thanks to Wilmer Flores' two-run home run in the top of the first inning. In the fourth, second baseman Ryan Sandoval stretched a 2-1 Rainiers deficit back to two runs after hitting a solo shot with two outs.
Tacoma's lineup was held to four hits in the contest. Abraham Almonte doubled in the third to extend his hitting streak to six games, and Carlos Peguero recorded a double second that stretched his streak to five games.
Rich Poythress was responsible for driving in the Rainiers lone run of the night when the designated hitter scored Peguero on a ground out to the shortstop in the second inning.
Starter Erasmo Ramirez (2-3) was dealt the loss after surrendering all four of Las Vegas' runs on 10 hits through 6.0 innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked one in his sixth start with Tacoma this season.
The Rainiers (48-35) host the final game of a four-game series with the 51s at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 30. Right-hander Brandon Maurer (2-1, 3.33) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series finale against Las Vegas' right-hander Matt Fox (2-2, 5.32).
Every Rainiers game throughout the 2013 season can be heard live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and is available for online streaming at www.tacomarainiers.com.
