June 30, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres pounded a season-high 21 hits in a 14-1 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Sunday at Security Service Field. The 13-run difference was the largest margin of victory for the Padres this season, who won the series three games to two.
Rene Rivera put the Padres ahead 1-0 in the second with a two-out RBI single to bring home Jonathan Galvez from second base. After rain halted play for more than an hour, the Sky Sox tied the score in the bottom of the fourth on Ben Paulsen's RBI single. Tucson answered with three runs in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Cody Decker and Brandon Allen to take a 4-1 lead.
The Padres compiled four runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to go up, 8-1. The inning included RBI singles from Rivera and Decker, as well as Dean Anna's two-run double off the right field wall. After Tucson added a run in the eighth, the Padres sent ten batters to plate in the ninth for five runs. Rivera went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Anna, Decker and Galvez had three hits each.
Jorge Reyes (5-3) was the winning pitcher, while Mike McClendon (6-5) was charged with the loss for the Sky Sox. Brad Boxberger, Ryan Kelly and Miles Mikolas combined for 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, while scattering only two hits and one walk. Padres starter Sean O'Sullivan didn't allow any runs and had three strikeouts before play was stopped at the end of the third inning.
Next Game: Monday, 7:05 pm at Sacramento (Athletics affiliate) - Tucson RHP Anthony Bass (1-1, 8.85) vs. Sacramento LHP Justin Thomas (3-6, 4.48). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
