Isotopes Collect 10-7 Win Over Redbirds

Scott Seabol collected four hits-including a third-inning home run-to guide the Albuquerque Isotopes (70-64) to a 10-7 victory over the Memphis Redbirds (54-82) in the series finale Sunday night at Isotopes Park.

Albuquerque's win on Sunday, coupled with a loss by Oklahoma, pushed the Isotopes' lead to 1.5 games in the Pacific Coast League's American Southern Division with eight games left to play. Third place New Orleans was defeated Sunday, dropping the Zephyrs to three games back.

The 'Topes saw an early lead slip away, only to recover and take control for the remainder of the game. Albuquerque led 4-0 through two innings, but the Redbirds tied the game in the third with a four-spot of their own. The 'Topes would go on to score three times in the third and add single tallies in the fourth, sixth and seventh frames to take a commanding lead. Memphis rallied for three runs in the eighth, but the 'Topes bullpen shut the door down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

The win went to Isotopes starter Wes Obermueller (3-1), who tossed five innings. Obermueller allowed four runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out four. Mauro Zarate and Logan Kensing each worked a scoreless inning before Ross Wolf-who was optioned by the Florida Marlins prior to game time-allowed three runs in the eighth. After a 35-minute rain delay chased Wolf, Roy Corcoran came on to record the final four outs and pick up his 14th save of the season.

The loss fell on Memphis' Randy Keisler (8-10), who worked six innings. Keiser allowed nine runs-eight earned-on 10 hits. The left-hander walked three and punched out four.

In the second, Paul Hoover notched an RBI double and Andrew Beattie smacked a three-run homer to put the 'Topes ahead 4-0. With the game tied in the third, Seabol crushed a two-run blast and Hoover added a solo shot, as Albuquerque regained the lead at 7-4. Obermueller helped his cause with a solo shot in the fourth, Eric Reed scored on an errant pickoff attempt in the sixth and Brett Carroll doubled home a run in the seventh to complete Albuquerque's offensive output for the inning.

Sunday's game included the Isotopes' annual Pink Jersey Silent Auction. A total of $8,658 was raised for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Central New Mexico. The leading bid of $2,000 went to a signed Isotopes jersey and hat worn and signed by Academy Award winning actor Kevin Costner. A Triple-A All-Star Game package that included signed bats by Albuquerque's three participants and a game-used base sold for $750. The top selling 'Topes jerseys belonged to Reed ($450), Reggie Abercrombie ($400) and Chris Ashby ($360).

The Isotopes now embark on the final road trip of the season, a four-game swing against the Round Rock Express. In the opener, Nic Ungs (5-4, 5.01) gets the nod for Albuquerque. Round Rock's game one starter is to be announced. First pitch is set for 6:05 PM MT from Dell Diamond.

The 'Topes return home on August 31 for the final regular season homestand of the season, a four-game showdown with the Oklahoma RedHawks. A visit from Birdzerk!, a pair of Fan Appreciation Night fireworks shows and an appearance by Rockin Ray & The Amazing Skyy Dogs highlight the four-game set.
