Sidewinders Open Final Homestand with 7-4 Win Over Portland

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders opened up their final regular season homestand with a 7-4 win over the Portland Beavers on Monday. RHP Enrique Gonzalez turned in a quality start going 6 2/3 and allowing three runs en route to his eighth victory. He also went 2-for-2 with a run, RBI and walk at the plate to help his cause.

The Sidewinders got on the bored first in the bottom of the second with two runs. A single by SS Matt Erickson followed by a walk by 2B Matt Morgan put runners on first and second with one out. Ronnie Merril Jr. slapped a ground ball through the right side to bring in Tucson's first run. With runners on the corners and two outs, LF Alex Romero brought home another run with a groundball in the hole between first and second.

In the fourth, 3B Ronnie Merrill Jr. tripled and scored on a RHP Enrique Gonzalez single. Then with the bases loaded and two outs, 1B Jamie D'Antona singled in a run to give Tucson a 4-0 lead.

Tucson added three runs in the sixth. E. Gonzalez led off the inning with a walk and a double by Romero put runners on second and third. CF Carlos Gonzalez singled up the middle to bring in one run. A wild pitch brought runner in from third and gave Tucson a 6-0 lead. Gonzalez came home after a balk and an error on the thirdbasemen to extend the Sidewinders' lead to 7-0.

Portland got on the board in the seventh with three runs. The first run came on a CF Brady Clark single to left. The Beavers then loaded the bases with one out and brought home runs on consecutive at bats with a fielder's choice and a single.

Portland threatened in the top of the ninth by getting runners on the corners with one out. One run came home on a sac fly but RHP Jailen Peguero struck out the final batter to secure the 7-4 victory for Tucson.

Quentin started in right field on a rehab assignment. He went 1-for-5 with a strikeout.
