Dickey, Pettyjohn Named To All-PCL Team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Starting pitchers R.A. Dickey and Adam Pettyjohn have been named as the division-champion Nashville Sounds' representatives on the 2007 All-Pacific Coast League Team, which was announced by the league office this afternoon.

Dickey, a Nashville native, has turned in an outstanding season while playing for his hometown team. The knuckleballer is 11-6 with a 3.74 ERA (65er/165.1ip) in 29 appearances (20 starts) for the Sounds.

The 32-year-old is tied for 2nd in the PCL with 11 victories, which match a career high (also in 2001 & 2005) and his 3.74 ERA ranks 3rd-best among Pacific Coast League hurlers and 9th overall in Triple-A baseball this season.

Dickey ranks 6th among PCL hurlers with 112 strikeouts, is 4th in the circuit with 156 1/3 innings pitched, and leads all PCL starting pitchers and ranks 8th among Triple-A hurlers with a .248 opponent batting average. His three complete games tie for the league lead and match his career high (2001 & 2006). Since rejoining the rotation in mid-June, the right-hander has posted stellar numbers, carrying a 7-2 record and 2.37 ERA (24er/91.0ip) in 13 starts.

Pettyjohn, who joined the Sounds on June 1st after opening the year with Double-A Huntsville, is tied for 3rd among minor league hurlers with a career-best 15 victories between the two clubs this season.

In 16 starts for Nashville, the left-hander is 11-4 with a 3.96 ERA (43er/97.2ip). He joins Dickey in a tie for second among league hurlers in victories and his ERA would rank 6th in the PCL but he is nine innings short of the league minimum.

The 30-year old has struck out 76 batters while walking only 18 in his 97 2/3 PCL innings this season.

The All-PCL squad is selected annually through voting by the league's managers and media representatives.

Nashville is one of three clubs (Colorado Springs, Iowa) to have two players selected to the team; Albuquerque led the circuit with three honorees.

The hurlers are the first Sounds to be recognized on the All-PCL team since 2003, when outfielder John Barnes and reliever Mark Corey were elected.

Dickey will serve as the Sounds' starting pitcher in this evening's 6 p.m. opener of a four-game series against the Omaha Royals. Pettyjohn is scheduled to make his next start for Nashville at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening in the club's final regular season home game of the year.
