Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis rallied for a pair of runs in the eighth inning to complete the comeback victory over Iowa 10-8 Monday night at AutoZone Park.
Danny Ardoin drove in the go-ahead runs with a double in the eighth inning to give Memphis their first lead of the game and the eventual win. Ardoin made his home debut with the Redbirds a memorable one going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Brian Barden also made his home debut going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three runs scored. Joe Mather hit his 12th round tripper with the âBirds in the second inning and has driven in runs in six straight games.
Matt Craig put the Cubs on the board in the first inning with a grand slam off Redbirds starter Mike Maroth. Geovany Soto continued his hot streak against the âBirds hitting a three-run homer but struck out to end the game with two runners on base.
Maroth started for the Redbirds and gave up four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. The right-hander threw 30 pitches with 18 for strikes. He fanned two and walked one. Brad Thompson gave up four runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief. Brian Falkenborg picked up the win with 1.1 innings of work and Chris Perez nailed down his seventh save, striking out the side in the ninth. Ben Howard was pinned with the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits.
The âBirds will host Iowa tomorrow nigh at 7:10 p.m. Chris Lambert is scheduled to start for Memphis with Iowa yet to name a starter.
