Zephyrs Breeze by RedHawks

The New Orleans Zephyrs took the first game of their four-game series with the Oklahoma RedHawks, winning 8-3 Monday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Zephyrs pulled within a half game of the RedHawks for second place in the American South Division.

With a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, New Orleans (69-68) scored four runs on five hits, including three homers, to take a 7-1 lead. Jason Alfaro started the inning with a lead-off home run off starter Eric Hurley. Fernando Tatis later connected for a three-run homer, and Adam Tracy finished the homer barrage with a solo shot.

Oklahoma (69-67) scored three runs on six hits off of four Zephyr pitchers. Hurley (4-7) took the loss as he allowed eight runs on 10 hits, including four homers, in 4.1 innings.

Philip Humber (11-9) got the win, allowing one run on two hits in five innings. Humber left the after the fifth after apparently being struck by a comebacker.

The RedHawks are now 1.5 out of first after Albuquerque lost to Round Rock, and New Orleans is 2.0 games back of the Isotopes. The RedHawks and Zephyrs continue their series Tuesday at 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
