Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Rochester, New York - From the jump, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (76-63, 40-26) offense was firing on all cylinders in a 10-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings (63-74, 29-35) on Thursday night at Innovative Field.
After drawing two walks in the first inning, Rafael Marchan came through with two outs with a triple to drive home both runners to put Lehigh Valley ahead 2-0.
Rochester immediately cut the deficit in half in the last of the first as Blake Rutherford hit a solo homer out to right.
Marchan collected his second triple of the game in the third inning, driving in another run, to make it 3-1 IronPigs.
In the sixth, Esteban Quiroz drove in a run with a double and Scott Kingery brought home two with a base hit to extend the IronPigs lead to 6-1.
Richie Martin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth to get one run back for Rochester, but the Red Wings ultimately stranded the bases loaded.
Marchan singled to open the eighth and Quiroz then doubled again. A wild pitch scored Marchan before Quiroz scored on a sacrifice fly. Kody Clemens capped the frame with a two-run homer, his 15th of the season, to make it 10-2.
Michael Plassmeyer (3-4) posted a strong outing to earn the win for the IronPigs. Plassmeyer allowed just one run on five hits and two walks, striking out five.
Tommy Romero (5-6) took the loss for the Red Wings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks, striking out five over four innings.
