Inter Miami CF Signs Defender Ventura Alvarado

Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed former U.S. Men's National Team and two-time Concacaf Champions League winning center back Ventura Alvarado to a contract running through the 2021 MLS season, with a Club option for 2022 and an additional Club option for 2023. The 28-year-old Mexican American bolsters the Club's backline after 10 years in Liga MX, where he also claimed two Liga MX Clausura titles, one Apertura title and a Copa MX title.

Alvarado joins the Club pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

"We're excited to sign Ventura to Inter Miami to add depth and help us solidify our backline. He's an experienced center back who has played at a high level in Mexico and with the national team," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting DIrector Chris Henderson. "We've seen his talent on the pitch and positive attitude and character off it firsthand and we're looking forward to his contributions to the squad."

The Phoenix, Arizona, native has spent the entirety of his career in Mexico, where he registered 186 appearances across all competitions, featuring for Club de Fútbol América (2012-2016),  Club Necaxa (on loan in 2013-2014 and signed 2018-2020), Santos Laguna (2017) and Club Atlético de San Luis (2020-2021).

Alvarado began his career in the youth ranks of Club de Fútbol América before breaking into the first team in the 2012-13 season. The defender went on to make 66 appearances for the team across all competitions, registering four goals and an assist and helping the team win the Liga MX Clausura 2013 and Apertura 2014 titles and two Concacaf Champions League titles (2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons). During his tenure with the team, he was loaned out to Club Necaxa for the 2013-14 season, where he made 21 appearances across all competitions for the then Ascenso MX, Mexico's second division, side.

In January 2017, he left América on a permanent transfer to join Santos Laguna. In his sole year at the club, Alvarado totalled 15 appearances for the team across all competitions and was part of the 2018 Liga MX Clausura title-winning side. 

In January 2018 he once again signed for Club Necaxa, this time on a permanent basis. He became a regular fixture in the side during his second stint at the club. Overall, he played 71 matches, scoring three times, across all competitions and won the 2018 Copa MX Clausura title in his time at Necaxa between 2018 and 2020.

Most recently, Alvarado played for Club Atlético de San Luis from 2020 to 2021. After joining the side in July 2020, he played 13 Liga MX matches.

On the international stage Alvarado was eligible to play both for his native United States and Mexico due to his Mexican parents. Ultimately, he chose to play for the USMNT and made his debut for the team in a friendly against Denmark on March 25, 2015. He has tallied 13 appearances for the United States during his senior international career, all coming in 2015, partaking in nine friendlies and four 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup matches.
