Individual Efforts Help Monarchs Sail Away With Win

NORFOLK, VA - Two unassisted goals and a 38-save effort by Manchester Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera led to the first home ice loss for the Norfolk Admirals, a 2-1 drowning in front of 3,031 fans at the Norfolk Scope on Wednesday night.

Manchester (8-6-4-1) moves into third place in the Atlantic Division with 21 points. Norfolk (13-2-2-1) leads the East Division with 29 points.

The first goal of the game came at 1:55 of the third period as the Admirals skated on a 5-on-3 power play. Crashing the net, numerous Norfolk players were able to get their sticks on the puck including right wing Troy Brouwer and center Jonas Nordqvist. LaBarbera made the initial saves but right wing Brandon Bochenski was sitting on the edge of the crease, ready to tip in the lose puck which trickled behind LaBarbera for his 13th goal of the season.

Monarchs right wing Mike Hoffman tied the game 1-1 at 11:22 of the final period as he split the defense and snapped a shot five-hole on Admirals goaltender Corey Crawford.

Left wing Noah Clarke battled off two defensemen and blasted a shot from the left face-off circle that went sailing past Crawford at 3:26 of overtime to help Manchester become the first team to defeat the Admirals on home ice during the 2006-07 season. Clarke is now tied with center Michael Cammalleri for the Monarchs all-time goals scored title with 71 tallies.

LaBarbera earned his seventh win of the season stopping 38 of 39 shots. Crawford took the loss with 23 saves.

Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Norfolk was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
