The first-ever appearance by the Lowell Devils broke a three-game winless streak for HERSHEY, as the BEARS won 3-2 at GIANT Center Wednesday night

HERSHEY got off to a good start, thanks to a power play humming on all cylinders. Lawrence Nycholat started the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal at 16:42. Jonas Johansson then gave the BEARS a 2-0 lead before intermission with a tap-in goal past Albany goaltender Frank Doyle at 18:22. In the second period, Barry Tallackson found the back of the net against HERSHEY'S Maxime Daigneault to put Lowell on the scoreboard. The power play goal at 9:29 of the second cut HERSHEY'S lead in half at 2-1. Eric Fehr scored a short-handed goal from Dave Steckel at 10:16 to give the BEARS a two-goal lead for a second time, but Lowell would answer before intermission. Petr Vrana scored at at 11:23 of the period to bring the Devils back within one. The BEARS outshot Lowell 15-13 in the period, and led 3-2. Neither team would score in the third as HERSHEY hung on for the victory.

The BEARS will play the second half of the two-game season series with Lowell on Saturday, February 3 at Tsongas Arena. The goal by Fehr in the second period extended his personal scoring streak to 14 games. HERSHEY'S longest point streak in team history was recorded by Wes Jarvis. Jarvis scored in 20 straight games during the 1981-82 season. Fehr was named the game's number one star, Giroux number two, and Daigneault was number three star in the game.
