Albany Devils News Release
Hershey, PA - The Hershey Bears (11-2-1-2) jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Lowell Devils (9-6-1-1) at the Giant Center on Wednesday night.
Lowell fell behind in the opening period, courtesy of the effective Hershey power play. Lawrence Nycholat and Jonas Johansson scored goals on the man advantage just 1:40 apart, at 16:42 and 18:22, respectively, to take the 2-0 lead into the dressing room after 20 minutes of play. The Bears pelted Devils G Frank Doyle with a 13-5 shot advantage in the first.
A flurry in the middle of the second period put the Devils back in the game. Barry Tallackson scored on the power play for Lowell at 9:29 to make it 2-1 with his third of the season. Eric Fehr responded just 47 seconds later with a shorthanded tally to regain the two-goal advantage. But Petr Vrana pulled the Devils back within a tally at 11:23 to make it 3-2. The teams added up to 26 penalty minutes in the middle frame, including a scrap between Hershey's Louis Robitaille and David Clarkson, who leads the Devils with 36 penalty minutes.
The Devils pressured in the third to tie the game, outshooting the Bears 11-10. Lowell had a pair of power plays as well, but Hershey G Maxime Daigneault stood the test. Daigneault finished with 27 saves and picked up the win. Doyle stopped 35 of 38 shots in suffering the loss for the Devils.
Lowell heads home to host the Portland Pirates on Friday night at the Tsongas Arena. One lucky fan will have the chance to win $20,000. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and doors open at 6:05 p.m.
