Indians' Ninth-Inning Rally Falls Short

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to cut a four-run deficit to one before falling short to Louisville on Sunday at Victory Field.

Indianapolis (15-13) was first on the board with a run in the fourth. Cole Figueroa singled to right to open the frame and eventually scored on a wild pitch from Josh Smith.

Louisville (17-11) reversed the lead with a two-run shot from Brandon Allen in the sixth. It was his second homer of the series after going deep on Friday night as well.

The Bats added to their lead in the next inning thanks to a lined solo home run to left from reigning IL Player of the Month Jermaine Curtis to make it 3-1.

The Tribe loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth before reliever Tim Melville wriggled off the hook with two strikeouts and a fly ball.

Indians starter Steven Brault exited the game due to injury in the bottom of the third. He was replaced by John Kuchno (0-3) who received the loss after allowing two runs in 2.2 innings.

Louisville starter Josh Smith (3-2) allowed one run over five innings to earn the win.

The Tribe hits the road to take on Syracuse tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m.
