Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (15-14) held on to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (16-15) by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field in Moosic.

Trailing 5-4, the RailRiders had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but RHP Edubray Ramos (1.0 IP, 2 H) was able to get Pete Kozma and Donovan Solano to fly to center and end the inning.

RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) tossed a scoreless ninth and notched his league-leading eighth save of the year for the Pigs.

Tommy Joseph's (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, R) two-run shot in the top of the first off of RailRiders starter Luis Cessa gave the IronPigs an early 2-0 lead.

In the home half of the frame, Aaron Judge's two-run blast off of Pigs starter David Buchanan tied things at two apiece for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Pigs regained the lead at 4-2 in the top of the third when Angelys Nina and Darnell Sweeney started the inning with back-to-back singles before both came around to score on a two-run double from Nick Williams.

Nina's solo shot off of Cessa in the top of the fifth opened up a 5-2 lead for the Pigs. The home run was Nina's first of the season and his first since August 15, 2015 with Albuquerque (AAA).

Cessa (0-1) allowed the five runs on six hits while walking three and fanning three over 5.2 IP.

A pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre brought the hosts within 5-4. Solano plated a run with an RBI double and Gary Sanchez reached on an error charged to Pigs SS Taylor Featherston, which allowed a run to score. Trailing 5-4, the RailRiders had the bases loaded with one out in the inning, but Buchanan was able to fan Slade Heathcott and Nick Swisher to avoid any further damage.

Buchanan (1-2) surrendered the four runs on four hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts in his five innings of work.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had runners at first and second with one out in the sixth, but RHP Severino Gonzalez (2.0 IP, H, K) was able to strike out Pete Kozma and got Solano to ground to second and end the inning.

The Pigs will open a four-game set at Columbus on Monday night. First pitch from Huntington Park is slated for 6:35 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (1-3, 4.85) will be on the bump for Lehigh Valley against Columbus LHP Ryan Merritt (2-2, 3.30).
