Syracuse Mets News Release

Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Buffalo Bisons, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. The Chiefs took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, but a three-run bottom of the frame by the Bisons led to a series split. Matt den Dekker made his 2016 Syracuse debut in the loss.

Buffalo (13-17) took the lead in the first inning against A.J. Cole. Domonic Brown hit his fifth home run of the season to give Buffalo the lead first for the second-straight day.

Syracuse (17-12) battled back to the lead in the fourth thanks in part to two Buffalo errors. With one out, Scott Sizemore reached on a throwing error on third baseman Matt Dominguez. Sizemore advanced to third on den Dekker's single a batter later to put runners on the corners. Matt Skole then extended his on-base streak to seven with an RBI single to tie the game at one, with den Dekker moving to third on the play. Jason Martinson followed by hitting a chopper to short. Jio Mier misplayed the ball, allowing Martinson to reach and den Dekker to score on the second error of the inning. Both runs were unearned against Hernandez.

But the Bisons grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the frame. Cole walked two of the first three hitters of the inning, putting Casey Kotchman and A.J. Jimenez on base. After a strikeout, Mier singled home Kotchman to tie the game at two. Dalton Pompey then followed with the biggest hit of the game, a two-run double off the wall in left to lift Buffalo to a 4-2 lead.

The Chiefs, losers of two in a row for the first time in two weeks, return home to open a four-game series with the Indians Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Taylor Hill is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Jameson Taillon for Indianapolis.
