Indianapolis Indians News Release

MOOSIC, PA. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders used a two-run fifth inning to take the series opener from the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night, 3-1. The game's start was delayed nearly two hours by rain, and it was the first of a six-game road trip for the Tribe.

Neither team's offense mustered much in the opening four innings, as Indianapolis (15-15) was only able to work one walk and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (16-12) had accounted for just one hit. Jacob Stallings led off the top of the fifth with a double for the first hit for the Tribe, but SWB broke out in the bottom half.

Mandy Alvarez, who had smacked the game's first hit in the third, led off the fifth for the RailRiders with a single. He was erased on a fielder's choice, but Matt Lipka doubled home Cliff Pennington for the game's first run. Trey Amburgey then blooped a single to center to advance Lipka home. SWB led 2-0 after five.

The Indians cut the lead to just one run with two outs in the seventh. Stallings lined his second double of the game into the left-field corner and scored when Kevin Kramer smashed a double to the right-field corner. Kramer would advance to third on an error later in the inning but would be stranded there.

Ryan McBroom cracked a two-out home run for SWB in the bottom of the seventh to push the RailRiders' lead back to two runs, and it gave the game its final margin of 3-1 in favor of SWB.

Chance Adams (2-1) started for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and earned the win. He allowed just two hits and pitched into the seventh inning. Rookie Davis (0-3) worked six innings for Indy in the loss, he conceded just two runs and struck out four RailRider batters.

The trip continues for the Tribe with game two against the RailRiders on Wednesday night, first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Mitch Keller (3-0, 3.48) is slated to put his unbeaten record on the line for Indianapolis. The club returns home to Victory Field on Tuesday, May 14.
