June 9, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

It took two soft RBI singles in the first and second innings for Scranton to take a lead against the Bisons. But it took nearly one full day for the RailRiders to register the victory.

The RailRiders defeated the Bisons 2-1 in a game played over a two-day stretch on Monday and Tuesday due to a fog delay at Coca-Cola Field in the first of a three-game series. Buffalo recorded a total of six hits and struck out 10 times during the game.

On Monday, a heavy fog covered the majority of the playing field, beginning in the third inning and progressively getting worse. Once the game reached the fifth, the umpires suspended the contest with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre holding the 2-1 edge. The game was not restarted until Tuesday evening as part of a doubleheader.

Once restarted, neither team could find the scoreboard even with clear skies. The RailRiders held the Bisons to just one hit in closing out the victory.

While the fog made play on Monday night nearly impossible, it didn't phase one Bisons Buffalo outfielder. In the top of the fifth inning, Alex Hassan caught two deep fly balls in left field while battling a combination of artificial light and heavy fog. On the third out of the inning, the crowd initially did not know he caught the ball until he began to run into the dugout.

Hassan's efforts kept the score 2-1 after The Rail Riders scored in the first and second inning on two-out singles to centerfield. Kyle Roller had the first RBI, Mason Williams had the second.

Daniel Norris pitched the first half of the game on Monday and put up an admirable start. The southpaw gave up two earned runs and five hits in five innings of work. Scranton/WB starter Bryan Mitchell gave up one run and five hits in four innings. Norris earned the loss for his fifth of the season.

Veteran Phil Coke relieved Norris on Tuesday's portion of the game. It was Coke's first appearance at Coca-Cola Field after signing a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on June 2. He finished with one hit and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched. He has yet to allow an earned run in his tenure with the Herd.

Ochinko drove in the only run for Buffalo during the matchup. He put the Bisons on the board with an RBI-double down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Scott scored easily, but Daric Barton, who represented the tying run at the time, was thrown out at the plate. Ochinko and Barton each added two hits in the loss.

The Herd's 3-4-5 hitters went for a combined 0-for-10 with four strikeouts in the two-part matchup.

BISONS NOTES:

Andy Burns went hitless, ending a six-game hit streak for the Bisons...Colt Hynes worked the final two innings for the Bisons, providing shutout relief.
