Bisons Fall in DH Nightcap, 5-1
June 9, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
It was a tough night all for the Bisons on Tuesday Coca-Cola Field after the team lost to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 5-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. Buffalo had already dropped game one to the RailRiders, 2-1.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored the final five runs of game two to complete the twinbill sweep.
The Bisons jumped out early in the first inning. Caleb Gindl hit a one out snigle and two walks loaded the bases for Andy Burns, who singled home a run for the 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for Buffalo, that lead would only last half an inning.
Scranton/WB bounced back in the second inning with the help of three singles that would bring the run. The fifth inning brought more runs from the help of two walks and a two-out two-run double from Austin Romine to give Scranton/WB the 3-1 commanding lead.
Scranton didn't stop there. A two-run double from Mason Williams would extend the lead to 5-1.
The Herd had their chance in the bottom of the fifth inning to jump ahead. Both Matt Hague and Luke Scott were hit by pitches to load up the bases, but a line out to short and a quick double play would end the wishful thinking to take the lead.
Allenson was not happy with the overall performance for today. "When you score two runs in two games, you never have a good outcome." Frustration is also obvious when your team is in first place for most runners left on base. "It doesn't surprise me. Our hitting comes in waves; sometimes we can go through an inning batting the lineup. Lately, we can't do that."
Bisons starter Chad Jenkins pitched four innings and only allowing one run off of six hits. "He pitched really well," said Allenson.
Buffalo looks to avoid the sweep on Wednesday against New York Yankee prospect Luis Severino. Wednesday is also Kids Day at Coca-Cola Field, first pitch is at 10:35 am.
