Pigs' Rally Falls Short in 7-4 Loss
June 9, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-39) were able to put together a rally but came up short in a 7-4 loss to the Durham Bulls (34-26) on Tuesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
A three-run eighth cut the Durham lead to 7-4, but that was the closest the IronPigs would get.
Corey Brown gave the Bulls a 3-0 lead with a three-run shot to right centerfield in the bottom of the second off of Pigs starter Phillippe Aumont. It was the seventh home run of the season for Brown.
Lehigh Valley got a run back in the fourth when Dom Brown (2-4, 2B, 2 R) reached via a leadoff single, advanced to second on a fielder's choice, to third on a throwing error and scored on Chris McGuiness' RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-1.
Durham's Brown struck again in the sixth with a two-run shot as part of a four-run frame that opened up a 7-1 lead for the hosts. A throwing error charged to IronPigs SS Chase d'Arnaud and an RBI single courtesy of Ryan Brett allowed the other runs to score in the inning.
Aumont (2-4) surrendered six runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking three and fanning seven over 5.2 IP. The other Bulls run was charged to Pigs LHP Cesar Jimenez (1.1 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 K).
In the afore-mentioned three-run eighth, all three runs came against Durham RHP Kirby Yates (0.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER). Jayson Nix (3-4, 2B, R) delivered a leadoff double in the inning, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Brian Bogusevic (2-4, 2B, HR, RBI, R) also hit a solo shot in the inning for Lehigh Valley, his fifth home run of the season. The third run in the inning came via a Russ Canzler RBI double.
LHP Scott Diamond (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 3 K) earned the win for Durham and is now 6-2 on the year. RHP Ronald Belisario (1.0 IP, H, K) tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his 16th save of the season.
LHP Jake Diekman (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) had a scoreless outing out of the bullpen for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. is the series finale as Pigs LHP Anthony Vasquez (3-1, 1.64) will be opposed by Bulls LHP Jordan Norberto (1-2, 5.63).
