Iglesias Returns to Portland Lineup

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' shortstop Jose Iglesias has completed a rehab assignment with the Single-A Lowell Spinners and will rejoin the Sea Dogs Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at Hadlock Field when the Sea Dogs take on the Altoona Curve (Pirates). Infielder Luis Segovia was transferred to Single-A Salem to make room on the Sea Dogs' 24 man roster for Iglesias. Iglesias is slated to bat second Tuesday night and play shortstop.

Iglesias, 20, was placed on the disabled list with a fracture in his right thumb on June 6th, eight days after he was hit turning into a pitch from New Britain starter Mike McCardell on May 29th at Hadlock Field.

The ninth ranked prospect in the Boston organization according to Baseball America, Iglesias was batting a team high .306 (45-147) in 40 games with Portland in his first professional season before the injury. Iglesias, who signed with the Red Sox as an international free agent on September 8, 2009, was recently voted the "Best Defensive Shortstop" in the Eastern League by Baseball America, recording 98 assists and 46 putouts in 151 chances, for a .954 fielding percentage thus far.

Iglesias was assigned to Lowell for his rehab stint on July 31st. In 13 games with the Spinners, he hit .350 (14-40) with eight runs scored and seven runs batted in, including hits in all but two contests. Iglesias served as the designated hitter in 11 contests and played shortstop twice, he enjoyed a 1.000 fielding percentage in 12 chances with nine assists and three putouts.
