Altoona Curve News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - After falling down 2-0 to Portland (AA - Boston Red Sox), the Altoona Curve were able to storm back and score the last four runs of the contest unanswered to secure a 4-2 win over the SeaDogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
Altoona is now 4-0 against Portland this year. The Curve (70-51) also maintains a 5.0 game lead over the Bowie Baysox in the Eastern League's Western Division.
Former Curve infielder Ray Chang belted a solo homer off of Tony Watson in the first inning, and Che-Hsuan Lin singled home a run in the second to put Portland up 2-0 early. Watson lasted just 3.0 innings allowing three two runs on six hits.
Altoona, however, would counter with a pair of runs to knot the score in the top of the fourth. Jordy Mercer's two-out, RBI double scoring Josh Harrison would cut the deficit to 2-1. Hector Gimenez would immediately follow with an RBI single to knot the score, 2-2.
In the fifth, Jim Negrych singled home Jose de los Santos to give Altoona a lead they would not relinquish. The Curve would tack on another run when Miles Durham scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to give the Curve a 4-2 lead.
After Watson departed, Michael Colla tossed 3.0 innings of one-hit scoreless relief, while righty Anthony Claggett hurled two perfect innings before Daniel Moskos - who faced just two over the minimum in a scoreless ninth - notched his 19th save of the season in 20 opportunities.
Altoona will look to grab the second game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. LHP Jeff Locke (1-1, 3.71) takes the mound for Altoona in front of an expected 800-1,200 friends, family, fans and other supporters from his hometown of nearby Conway, New Hampshire. Opposing for the SeaDogs (58-63) will by right-hander Blake Maxwell (4-0, 2.08). Airtime on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates begins at 6:30 p.m.
