Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves trailed by two in the ninth inning on Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park but rallied to take down the Harrisburg Senators 4-3 in 10 innings. It was the third time in the last four games the 'Wolves won a game in 10.

Erie starter Anthony Shawler held Harrisburg scoreless for the first four innings of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Michael Burgess, in his Double-A debut, connected on a solo home run for his first hit, putting the Sens ahead 1-0. Josh Johnson followed with a single and he advanced to third on a double by Tim Pahuta. An Edgardo Baez sacrifice fly to center scored Johnson for a 2-0 lead.

The SeaWolves could get nothing started against Senators starter Brad Peacock. Peacock held the 'Wolves hitless until the seventh when Brandon Jones broke up the no-no with single up the middle. Erie would get two on base before Peacock induced an inning-ending groundout.

The Senators took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Burgess homered for the second time off of Shawler.

Erie got on the board against reliever Chuck James in the eighth. Jeff Kunkel walked with one out and moved into scoring position on an Alden Carrithers base hit. With two outs, Jones singled to right, scoring Kunkel making it 3-1.

In the ninth, the Howlers would tie the game against reliever Cole Kimball. Kody Kaiser walked with one out and Bryan Pounds singled putting two on for Kunkel. Kunkel grounded to second but on a bobbled ball, the second baseman Stephen Lombardozzi could only get the runner at first. With runners on second and third, a wild pitch with Carrithers batting scored Kaiser making it a one-run game at 3-2. Carrithers sent a bouncer to Lombardozzi at second and beat out the throw after the second baseman bobbled the ball. The error allowed Pounds to score, tying the game at 3-3.

In the 10th, the 'Wolves would face Orlando Hernandez who had yet to give up a run in two outings as a Senator. Brandon Douglas extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with a double to the left-field gap. Douglas advanced to third on a groundout by Jones. Rawley Bishop sent a slow roller towards the first baseman Chris Marrero, Marrero came to the plate but overthrew the catcher, allowing Douglas to score the go-ahead run.

Lester Olivers allowed the tying run to reach with two outs in the bottom of the 10th before striking out Lombardozzi ending the game, picking up his seventh save.

Jay Voss (2-3) earned the win in his first game since being called back up from Lakeland. Voss worked 0.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout.
