Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a roster move today as IF Carlos Rivero was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to 6/30) and LHP Eric Berger was activated from the disabled list. Berger will be starting for the Aeros tonight against the Bowie Baysox with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.

Rivero, Akron's everyday shortstop, has been out of action since June 24th while nursing a left wrist sprain. The 22-year-old native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela is in his second full season in Double-A with the Aeros and was batting .234 in 67 games played. He was named the 10th-best prospect in the Indians organization prior to the 2009 season by Baseball America as well as the prospect with the best infield arm. Rivero batted .242 in 132 games last year while setting a new Akron franchise record with a .972 shortstop fielding percentage, and was signed by Cleveland as a free agent in 2005.

Berger returns to the Akron active roster and will be the starting pitcher for the Aeros tonight in Bowie. The left-hander is a product of the University of Arizona and was scratched from his previous scheduled start on June 22nd with mid-back tightness before heading to the disabled list. He is currently 3-4 with a 5.25 ERA in 10 starts this season, but has a 1.96 ERA in his last four outings. He permitted just one hit in 6.2 innings pitched on June 10th against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, marking his second quality start of the season. The Indians selected Berger in the eighth round of the June 2008 Draft and he had a 2.50 ERA in 27 combined starts in 2009 between Class A Kinston and Akron.

The Aeros active roster remains at 24 men and Berger will be wearing #29 as he starts tonight at Prince George's Stadium against the Bowie Baysox.
