Thunder Pours On Seven Runs in the Third to Beat Sens

The Trenton Thunder put up seven runs in the third inning, and downed the Harrisburg Senators on Friday night in Trenton, by a final score of 7-2. The game was played in front of a crowd of 4665.

Senators starter Andrew Kown (2-4) was knocked out of the game with one out in the third, as the Thunder scored all seven runs before the second out of the inning was recorded. Kown took the loss. Lance Pendleton threw six innings for Trenton, allowed just one run, and got the win to improve to 7-3.

The Senators (38-43) scored single runs in the fifth and eighth innings, but could get no closer than five runs down. In the fifth, Adam Fox drew a one-out walk, and Danny Espinosa doubled him home. Then, in the eighth, the Sens loaded the bases, but could score just one, on Jesus Valdez' RBI single that drove in Michael Martinez. Two consecutive strikeouts ended the inning, stranding Marvin Lowrance, Chris Marrero, and Valdez.

For the second straight night, the Sens outhit the Thunder (49-31), this time eight hits to six. Espinosa, Martinez, and Lowrance each had two hits, while Marrero and Valdez each had one.

Game three of the series is Saturday night at 7:05 PM, and pits LHP Aaron Thompson (4-9, 5.63) of the Sens against RHP DJ Mitchell (6-3, 4.70) of the Thunder. Fans can hear all the action starting at 6:50, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
