Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- The Thunder used a seven-run inning and another strong outing from RHP Lance Pendleton to handle Harrisburg 7-2 on Friday night at Waterfront Park. Every batter in the Thunder lineup managed to reach base at least once, as Trenton (49-31) has taken the first two games of the series over the Senators.
The Thunder sent 12 men to the plate in the third inning and scored seven runs on six hits off Harrisburg RHP Andrew Kown (2-4). Austin Krum kicked off the scoring with a two-run homer to right field, making it 2-0. After a Luis Nunez triple and a walk by Austin Romine, Brandon Laird knocked in his 80th run of the year with a base hit to give the Thunder a 3-0 advantage. Daniel Brewer drove in Romine on an RBI single, and went to third base on an RBI double by Matt Cusick, which brought in Laird. Marcos Vechionacci then cleared the bases with a two-run double to right field to give Trenton a 7-0 edge.
In the top of the fifth inning, RHP Lance Pendleton walked Adam Fox with one out, who came around to score from first base on an RBI double down the right field line by Danny Espinosa to cut the Thunder lead to 7-1.
The run in the fifth would be the only one allowed by Pendleton, who allowed five hits, walked two and struck out seven in six innings of work. Pendleton (7-3) retired the last five batters he faced before handing the ball to RHP Josh Schmidt. The right-hander allowed one run in the final three innings to earn the save. Schmidt struck out the last five batters of the game.
Harrisburg had the bases loaded twice in the eighth inning on Schmidt, but was only able to bring one run in on an RBI single by Jesus Valdez. The Senators bullpen held the Thunder scoreless over the last 6.2 innings.
Trenton and Harrisburg play the third game of their series on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP DJ Mitchell makes the start for Trenton, and Harrisburg will start LHP Aaron Thompson. For tickets, call 609-394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com
