Ice Slide by Tigers 7-2
November 28, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
The Tigers finished off their weekend road trip to Manitoba with a game against the top ranked team in the CHL, Winnipeg Ice (20-1-0-0). The two teams faced off the previous weekend with the Ice coming away with a 4-2 victory at Co-op Place.
Winnipeg's power play would strike twice in the first period to a give them an early lead. Connor McClennon would score both goals to increase his league leading totals to 19. McClennon's first came off a slow, low one timer from the left faceoff circle. He made it a two goal game five minutes later with a very similar goal, except this time he was down on one knee when he let the shot go.
The Ice power play kept clicking early in the second period. Jakin Smallwood put home a rebound at 1:29 of the middle frame for his 12th of the season. The Tigers would get on the board a couple of minutes later to cut the lead to two. Ashton Ferster kept the puck in the offensive zone. He moved the puck to Brayden Boehm who found Owen MacNeil down low on the right hand side. MacNeil let a nice wrister go that found the back of the net for his fourth of the season. The Ice would reinstitute their three goal lead shortly after MacNeil's goal. Mikey Milne found Jakin Smallwood going to the net and found him with a nice pass. Smallwood was able to tap it in for his second of the period. Winnipeg's high powered offence would strike again midway through the period. James Form was able to get around a Tigers defenceman and made a nice deke to net his third of the year. Manitoba native Cayden Glover continued his strong play on the Tigers road trip. He cut the lead with his second goal in as many nights. Glover redirected Gleb Ivanov's one timer from the point to make it a 5-2 game. Daniel Baker picked up the secondary assist on the goal. Unfortunately, the Ice would strike one more time before the end of the period. Mikey Milne got loose and he was just able to beat the goalie with his deke to give him 16 on the season.
The third period wasn't nearly as wild as the previous one but the Ice were able to find the net once more. Karter Prosofsky scored his first of the season 7:12 into the final frame. He skated to the top of the right circle and let go a hard wrister that found the bottom left corner.
Garin Bjorklund (2-9-2-0) got the call for the Tigers in net. His 35 saves in the game included a number of impressive highlights.
