Vancouver Holds Chiefs at Bay as Spokane Loses 3-1 on Saturday Night

Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. -- Vancouver Giants forwards Fabian Lysell (1G-1A) and Ty Thorpe (1G-2A) each had big nights as the Giants held off the Spokane Chiefs at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
The Giants jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period behind goals from Lysell and Thorpe at 14:02 and 17:25, respectively. Vancouver held the two-goal lead into the first intermission despite shots being close at 10-8.
Spokane responded in the second, taking advantage of an unsportsmanlike penalty on Thorpe to score with the man advantage at 2:20. Abbotsford, B.C. native Graham Sward snapped the puck home through traffic from the point, earning his third goal of the season. Sward now has points in three of the Chiefs' last four games.
That was as close as the Chiefs would get as the third went without a goal until Detroit Red Wings prospect Alex Cotton picked up a rebound on a Thorpe shot for his eighth of the season at 18:20.
Rookie Manny Panghli started in goal for Spokane and played well, turning aside 25 of 28 shots faced, while Will Gurski started for Vancouver, going 22-for-23. Spokane finished 1-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs will welcome the Victoria Royals to Spokane Arena on Tuesday.
