
Ice Pilots Pick Up A Point With 6-5 Shootout Loss At Columbia

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots picked up a point with a 6-5 shootout loss to the Columbia Inferno on Tuesday night in front of 2,455 fans in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jeff Smith started the scoring for Columbia scoring 3:05 into the game to give Columbia a 1-0 lead. Brendan Cook would tie the game for the Ice Pilots 46 seconds later scoring his third goal of the season for a 1-1 tie. Columbia would take a 3-1 lead as Leon Hayward scored on a rebound shot off the face off at the 8:40 mark of the first period and Hayward would than set up Travis Lisabeth on an odd man rush 40 seconds later to give Columbia a 3-1 lead. Mark Rooneem would pull the Ice Pilots to within one scoring in front of the net on a nice pass from Brian Collins to make it a 3-2 game.
The Ice Pilots would score two goals in the second period to take a 4-3 lead. Adam Courchaine scored his third goal of the season scoring from the right wing circle on a pass from Steven Later. Chris St. Jacques would score his third shorthanded goal of the season and his fifth goal of the year with 2:12 left in the second period and the Ice Pilots had their first lead 4-3.
Columbia would tie the game in the third period as Chanse Fitzpatrick would scored at the 2:11 mark of the period and Chris Busby would scored his first of the season with a shot from inside the blue line a minute and 13 seconds later to give Columbia a 5-4 lead.
Adam Courchaine tied the game at 5 with his second goal of the game on the power play at the 6:34 mark of the third period.
Nick Lindberg was the only shooter to score in the shootout for the Ice Pilots. Travis Lisabeth and Brandon Nolan scored for Columbia. Rod Aldoff was the fifth and final shooter for the Ice Pilots but his back hand shot was denied by Columbia goalie Chris Houle.
The Ice Pilots had 30 shots on goal, 20 penalty minutes and went 2-7 on the po wer play. Columbia had 37 shots on goal, 22 penalty minutes and went 0-4 on the power play. Frederic Cloutier picked up the shootout loss in goal for the Iced Pilots and Chris Houle was the winning goalie for Columbia.
The Ice Pilots record goes to 5-8-2 for 12 points and are 2-1-1 on the five game road trip. Columbia improves their record to 9-6-2 for 20 points.
The Ice Pilots will end their five game road trip on Wednesday night at Augusta at 6:05 p.m. Fans will be able to listen to the game on the Ice Pilots Hockey Network beginning with the pre game show at 5:50 p.m. with flagship station AM 1620 and at www.icepilots.com sponsored by Sports Avenue. The game is also offered as a pay per view webcast at www.icepilots.com in conjunction with B2 networks for $6.
The Ice Pilots will return home to play Bakersfield in three games this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is the Triple Play Jackpot Weekend with $15,000 to be given away. $5,000 will be given away each night. To qualify for the prize money, fans need to be a season ticket holder or purchase a Triple Play Weekend ticket package by calling the Ice Pilots at 432-PUCK ext: 269.
The first 1,000 fans will receive Ice Pilots pens at the game on Friday night vs. Bakersfield at 7:05 p.m. Chris St. Jacques and David Turon will sign autographs after the game. The first 500 fans will receive Ice Pilots mouse pads before the game on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Chris Heid and Adam Courchaine will sign autographs after the game.
A Teddy Bear Toss will take place at the Ice Pilots home game on Sunday vs. Bakersfield at 4:05 p.m. Fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal teddy bear to the game and throw it onto the ice when the Ice Pilots score their first goal of the game. The teddy bears will be distributed to local charities in the community.
