San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced Tuesday that forward Dan DaSilva has been recalled to the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. DaSilva was also named runner-up for ECHL Player of the Week after netting 8 points (5g, 3a) in four games with the Gulls.

DaSilva, 20, began training camp this season with the Colorado Avalanche, San Diego's NHL affiliate. He was assigned Nov. 21 and played four games with the Gulls. Along with his eight points, the rookie winger scored a goal in every game he played with San Diego, which included one power-play and one game-winning marker. In 15 games for Lowell this season, he's notched three points (1g, 2a) and 18 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 195-pounder from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan spent the previous three years in juniors with the Western Hockey League's Portland Winter Hawks. During his three-year stint with Portland, DaSilva tallied 151 points (76g, 75a) and 328 penalty minutes.

DaSilva led Portland with 31 goals, 42 assists and 73 points last season. He led the Winter Hawks with 36 goals and was second with 56 points in 2003-04. The rookie winger was teammates with current Gull Cody McLeod for three seasons at Portland (2002-03 through 2004-05).

The Gulls continue their longest homestand of the year with two games this weekend against the Johnstown Chiefs. Saturday's game, which starts at 7:05 p.m., is "Survive the Holidays" night and Gulls hiking water bottles will be given away. Sunday's contest against Johnstown begins at 5:05 p.m. and will be another Kids Night, featuring "Skate with the Gulls" immediately afterward. San Diego closes out the homestand Friday, Dec. 9 vs. Phoenix. All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
