Ice Dogs Reel In Salmon Kings, 6-2

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (20-10-3) won for the 11th time in their last 14 games Wednesday night and their fifth straight at home, defeating the Victoria Salmon Kings (7-21-3) by a score of 6-2. The Ice Dogs are now 5-0-0 all time versus the Salmon Kings.

Long Beach got the scoring started just over six minutes into the game when Cory Urquhart scored, with assists from Marco Rosa and newcomer Rod Butler. Less than two minutes later David Walker scored his first of the season on the power play. With eight seconds to play in the second period, Evan Cheverie scored to give the Ice Dogs a 3-0 lead heading into the final frame.

The game opened up in the third period as Victoria got on the board with a goal by Robert Voltera. Less than three minutes later, David Walker scored his second of the night on the power play giving Long Beach a 4-1 lead. Victoria would cut the deficit in half on a goal by Seth Leonard, but it was as close as they would come the rest of the night. Evan Cheverie, who finished with two goals and two assists, and Chris Kenady who had a goal and two assists, finished out the scoring for Long Beach. The Ice Dogs remain in second place in the West Division with 43 points.

Olivier Michaud got the win in goal for Long Beach, making 20 saves and improving his record to 7-7-3. The Ice Dogs finished 3-7 on the power play while stopping all four of Victoria's power play opportunities. The two teams will play each other again on Saturday and Sunday in Long Beach.

The Ice Dogs' next game is Friday, January 14th, when the division rival San Diego Gulls come to town for the first time since the Ice Dogs defeated San Diego, 3-0, in the home opener October 22nd. Call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
