
Gators dump Wolves 4-3

Biloxi, Ms For the first time in 2005, the Louisiana IceGators visited victory lane, as the team snapped a 5 game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Mississippi Sea Wolves. For the Gators it was the first win on the road since December 7, 2004, snapping a 10 game winless streak away from the Cajundome.
The IceGators got on the scoreboard first as the power play unit dented the net at 8:12 of the first period. Wes Mason scored his 16th of the season and 8th power play tally as he slammed a rebound past Matt Underhill for the 1-0 lead. It was Mason's first power play goal since December 19, David Barauk and Randy Dagenais getting the assists. The Sea Wolves tied the game a little more than one minute later when Jay Legault (7) picked up a rebound off the back kick plate and deposited it past Nathan Marsters for a 1-1 game. The period would end tied at 1, despite the Gators outshooting the Wolves 16-10.
The IceGators broke open the 2nd period with a three goal outburst to make the count 4-2 after 40 minutes. David Bararuk scored his 10th of the season, on a backhander at 4:12 to make the score 2-1. Chris Thompson's dump in from center ice deflected to Bararuk for the breakaway and goal. After a Pat O'Leary (7) goal at 8:12 tied the game at 2, the Gators took the lead with two goals 37 seconds apart. At 9:34, Thompson went top shelf on a wrist shot from the right circle for his 8th of the season. The veteran scoring on a 2-1 using Mason as a decoy through the middle. At 10:11, Jade Galbraith scored on a breakaway, flipping the puck over the right pad of Underhill for a 4-2 advantage. It was Galbraith's 7th of the year and 3rd in 5 games with Louisiana.
In the 3rd period, the Sea Wolves would put 19 shots on Marsters but only Kerry Ellis Toddington (4) at 18:56 did any damage. Louisiana would ride out the last minute and win for the first time since December 31. Louisiana's record is now 15-17-3, 33 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Mississippi 42-39. Power plays were 1-3 for the Gators and 0-3 for the Sea Wolves.

Friday, January 14, 2005 NASCAR Night, Gators vs. Sea Wolves 7:05pm:
The ONLY home game of the month in on January 14, when the Gators host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on NASCAR night. Dale Earhardt Jr's #8 race car will be on display during the game. Pictures can be taken with the car for $10, net proceeds to benefit St. Jude's hospital. The Gators will be wearing special "NASCAR" jerseys which will auctioned off after the game.
