Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, Miss. â The Louisiana IceGators scored three goals in the second period to help end their five-game losing streak propelling past the Mississippi Sea Wolves, who had their four-game win streak halted, 4-3 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
"The game unraveled with a couple quick goals in that second period," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "We need to be more intense for a longer stretch. The IceGators played like they needed the win more and they got it. It'll be nice to get another crack at them tomorrow at the Cajundome."
Louisiana (15-17-3, 33 points) opened the score with a power-play at 8:12. IceGators' Wes Mason swept in a loose puck from the low right circle getting it past Matt Underhill to notch his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Assists went to David Bararuk and Randy Dagenais.
Mississippi (16-13-3, 35 points) got back on even terms at the 9:28 mark. Austin Miller let go with a shot from just inside the blue line, which ricocheted off the end boards onto the stick of Jay Legault, who beat Louisiana's All-Star representative Nathan Marsters. Legault's seventh of the campaign was also assisted by Russ Guzior.
The IceGators went ahead for the second time in the game at 4:11 of the second. Bararuk netted his 10th goal of the year assisted by Chris Thompson and Mason.
The Sea Wolves once again tied the score, as Pat O'Leary shoveled home a rebound in close for his seventh marker of the season. Lucas Drake and Kerry Ellis-Toddington garnered assists.
Later in the second, Mississippi's Jeff Hutchins, who was loaned to Rochester of the American Hockey League earlier in the day but couldn't get a flight, had a penalty shot after getting hauled down on a breakaway but shot the puck wide.
For the third time in the game, Louisiana would go up by one. Thompson fired a shot from the right circle past the blocker of Underhill at 9:34 to make it 3-2 for the IceGators. Bararuk and Mason picked up their second assists of the game on the goal.
Just 37 seconds later, the IceGators took their first two-goal lead of the game. After a turnover at the Mississippi blue line, Jade Galbraith took advantage and tallied his seventh of the year assisted by Pascal Pelletier and Dagenais. The eventual game-winner would give Louisiana its first win in 11 road games.
In the third, Underhill went to the bench for the extra attacker and the Sea Wolves made it count. Hutchins won the faceoff to Louis Dumont who fed a pass to Ellis-Toddington for a blast from the right point to register his fifth goal of the season, but the Sea Wolves couldn't get the equalizer. With the assists, Hutchins and Dumont each extended their point streak to nine games.
Mississippi failed to convert on three power play chances, while Louisiana went 1-for-3. Sea Wolves outshot the IceGators 42-39.
The Sea Wolves finish their home-and-home series with Louisiana by having the puck drop at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
