Idaho Steelheads News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - As the two teams did last night, the Idaho Steelheads and Alaska Aces ended three periods of regulation play tied at two apiece and skated through a scoreless overtime period. But, unlike last night the Steelheads were victorious in the shootout and beat Alaska 3-2. Bobby Russell scored the only goal in the shootout and gained Idaho the extra point, and Idaho's netminder Colin Zulianello stopped all five Alaska shooters.

Head coach John Olver said, "Even though we won tonight, we played much better last night. We were outplayed in the first period, but fortunately came out in the second period and started to play better. Our penalty kill had to come up big tonight, especially in the third period because we took some bad penalties."

Alaska jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an early goal by Joe Talbot at 3:24 of the first, and another by Charles Linglet, a power play goal at 10:22. Idaho answered back to close the gap at 14:32. Ben Keup fed a long pass to Frank Lukes who buried the puck over Aces' goalie Peter Aubry's right shoulder.

In the second frame, Idaho drew even with a shorthanded goal - the only goal of the period. At 8:58 Brett Draney notched his 6th of the year on a two-on-one with the helper coming from Jonathan Zion.
