Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Alex Kim scored two goals and Brandon Schwartz had a goal and an assist as the Ice Dogs beat Bakersfield Friday Night in Lakewood in the pre-season opener.
The pre-season game marked the debut of Head Coach Rick Adduono behind the Long Beach bench and the Dogs responded early as Rob Flynn scored on the power play at 1:36 to give the Dogs a 1-0 lead. Bakersfield Rookie Todd Griffith tied the game at one before the end of the first twenty minutes of play.
Fullerton, CA native Alex Kim got the scoring going in the second period with the first of his two goals at 5:38. Bakersfield would then score the next two goals to make it 3-2 Condors. But that would be the first and only lead the Bakersfield Condors would have the rest of the way. The Ice Dogs got two quick goals just 1:03 apart from Rookie Daniel DaCosta Lidstrom and Alex Kim to give the Ice Dogs a 4-3 heading into the 3rd period.
Brandon Schwartz scored some insurance for the Dogs at 4:09 of the 3rd period to make it 5-3. Mike Hofstrand cut the lead back just 16 seconds later to trim the Ice Dog lead back to one. That would be all the scoring in the period as Rookie Ice Dog net minder Adam Hanna turned away the rest of the Condors shots and the Ice Dogs held on for the 5-4 victory. The victory was the first for Rick Adduono as the Ice Dog's Head Coach.
