'Blades fall to Wildcatters 2-1 in pre -season finale

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (0-2-0) wrapped up their pre-season schedule by falling to the Texas Wildcatters (2-0-0) by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Germain Arena. With the win, Texas swept the weekend pre-season series between the South Division rivals.
For the second straight night the Wildcatters came from behind to pick up the victory. Matt Johnson tallied the eventual game winner at 9:03 of the third period deflecting a power play goal past Everblades goaltender David Shantz.
The Everblades opened the scoring with a second period 5-on-3 power play goal when David Brine banged a shot past Texas goaltender Miroslav Kopriva at 11:30 of the frame. Texas answered back shortly after with their first power play tally of the night when Marco Rosa backhanded a shot from the left post into the upper right corner of the net at 16:56.
Just as they did in Friday night's game, penalties and power play's ruled the night. After the teams combined for 26 power play chances in Texas' 4-2 win on Friday night, the teams combined for 28 man advantage opportunities on Saturday night. The Everblades closed out the game going 1-for-16 on the power play, while the Wildcatters converted on two of their 12 power play chances.
In net, Shantz, who played the final 29:54 of the game after replacing starter Craig Kowalski, suffered the loss for the Everblades allowing the two goals on 23 shots. Kopriva picked up the win for the Wildcatters turning away 29 of 30 shots. Kowalski stopped all 21 shots he faced in the 30:06 played.
