Bakersfield Condors News Release

LAKEWOOD, Calif. - Sean Venedam and Kevin Truelson each notched two assists, while four others tickled the twine, but it wasn't enough as the Bakersfield Condors dropped their preseason opener to the Long Beach Ice Dogs, 5-4, Friday night at the Glacial Gardens. The same two teams will square off again Saturday night at the Rabobank Arena.

Clubs traded goals in the first period, as Long Beach's Rob Flynn lit the lamp first with a power-play marker 1:36 into the contest. Condors newcomer Todd Griffith, who signed earlier in the day, tied it 15:48 into the frame off Venedam's setup.

Bakersfield fell behind again when Alex Kim beat rookie Condors netminder Danny Taylor 5:38 into the second period, but the Condors jumped ahead 3-2 thanks to a pair of tallies 1:07 apart. Rookie Danny Stewart beat Long Beach goaltender Adam Hanna at 6:44 before Neil Stevenson-Moore came calling at the 7:51 mark. Truelson earned assists on both goals, while Venedam picked up his second helper of the night on Stewart's marker.

The Ice Dogs answered later in the stanza however with two straight goals of their own, coming 1:03 apart. Daniel Lindstrom put one home at 12:03 and Kim notched his second of the night at 13:06 to make it a 4-3 game heading into the third.

Brandon Schwartz gave Long Beach a 5-3 cushion 4:09 into the third, but Bakersfield's Mike Hofstrand cut the lead back to one just 16 seconds later. That would be as close as the Condors would get however, as the Ice Dogs preserved the one-goal triumph.

The Condors and Ice Dogs meet again in both clubs' preseason finale Saturday, this time at the Rabobank Arena. Game-time is set for 7 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive an American Flag, compliments of KGEO Hot Talk AM1230 and the Holiday Inn Select.
