Augusta, GA - The Augusta Lynx fought back for a 4-3 shootout win over the Gwinnett Gladiators in pre-season action at the James Brown Arena on Saturday night.

Gwinnett opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period at the 10:00 mark. Mike Vigilante put home a cross-ice feed from Bruce Mulhearn to make it 1-0 Gladiators, while Brett Pilkington also added an assist on the power play goal.

The Lynx roared back with a pair of goals in the middle frame, the first an even strength marker from Shane Hynes at 9:01 on a Nathan Saunders helper to tie the game. Augusta moved ahead on their first power play goal of the night at 13:14, with Dirk Southern setting up Joe Cardarelli to give the Lynx their first lead of the pre-season.

Back-and-forth action marked the third period, as Gwinnett took a 3-2 lead on goals from Brandon Kaleniecki and Mulherin near the halfway point of the stanza. But Louis Goulet would bank a shot in off the skate of John Awe for a power play goal at 11:58 to tie the game at 3-3. Ryan Lang and Derrick Byfuglien drew the assists on the tally, which would send the game to overtime and then a shootout.

In the extra session, Augusta received goals from Ryan Lang, Joe Cardarelli, and J.B. Bittner while only Justin Cross marked for the Gladiators, giving the Lynx a 4-3 victory. Brett Jaeger earned the win for the Lynx by stopping three of four shooters.
