Falcons Fall to Thunder in Pre-Season Opener

Fresno, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder scored four power-play goals on their way to a 4-3 win over the Fresno Falcons in pre-season action on Friday night at Gateway Ice Center.

John Wroblewski staked Fresno to an early lead, tallying 3:11 into the first period. Wroblewski skated into the Stockton end, and made a quick rush to the net, beating Thunder goaltender Cam Ellsworth with a quick shot through the five-hole.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead just 2:22 later as Jordan Landry wristed a shot past Ellsworth from the right-wing circle.

Stockton cut the Fresno lead in half at 7:14 with a power-play off of the stick of Cam Abbott.

Fresno maintained its lead until the 4:08 mark of the third period when Stockton capitalized on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity. Liam Reddox gathered in a loose puck behind the Falcons net and tucked it on the near post to tie the score at two.

The Falcons answered at 7:10 with a two-man advantage goal of their own. Tomas Fojtik took a pass at the left point, and blasted a slap shot past Thunder goaltender Devan Dubnyk making it 3-2 Fresno.

Stockton scored its third power-play goal of the night 11:15 into the final period, tying the score at three. Chris Abbott tallied the equalizer, gathering in a rebound right in front of the Falcons net, and sliding a shot past Scott Stirling.

The Thunder took their first lead of the night with their fourth power-play tally of the night, and second 5-on-3 goal, at 14:21 of the final period. Stockton had a flurry of shots in front of the Fresno net, and the puck was put home by Jeff Lang.

Stockton finished the night 4-for-16 on the power play while Fresno was 1-for-10.

The Falcons travel to Stockton on Sunday for the back end of the home-and-home pre-season series. Face-off at Stockton Arena is set for 4:00 p.m., and radio coverage on 1550 Sporting News Radio begins immediately following the completion of the Miami Dolphins versus New York Jets NFL game which begins at 1:00 p.m. PST.

Your Pacific Division Champion Fresno Falcons are back on home ice for the Carl's Jr. Opening Weekend Extravaganza, Friday, October 20 and Sunday, October 22 against the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Save Mart Center. The first 3,000 fans in attendance Friday will receive a mini Pacific Division Championship Banner. The first intermission features Darren and Sandee's wedding. The extravaganza continues on Sunday, October 22 with free magnet schedules and a post-game skate with the players.
