LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the Boston Bruins, is proud to announce that former Long Beach Netminder Jaroslav Halak was victorious in his first professional start on Sunday for the Montreal Canadiens in 3-2 Win at Columbus.

Former Long Beach goaltender Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves for the Montreal Canadiens in his first National Hockey League start, a 3-2 win at Columbus on Sunday.

Selected in the ninth round (271st overall) by Montreal in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 5-foot-11 and 174-pound Halak was 11-4-2 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.05 and a save percentage of .932 in 20 games with Long Beach as a rookie in 2005-06. He also played for Hamilton as a rookie and was 7-6-0 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.29 and a save percentage of .927.

Halak was called up on Friday from Hamilton where he is 16-11-0 with a league-leading goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .932 in 28 games.

In other alumni news, T.J. Trevelyan is currently 5th on the Providence Bruins (AHL) in points scored with 34pts (18g-16a) in 37 games played since his recall from the Long Beach Ice Dogs on November 30th. Kip Brennan has recorded a goal and four penalty minutes in four games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) since his recall February 6th.

The Ice Dogs return home on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Long Beach Arena this weekend. The Ice Dogs host the Alaska Aces on Friday at 7:30pm on "Homecoming Night." The first 1000 fans will receive pom-poms. On Saturday, the Ice Dogs clash with the Aces again at 7pm on "Police and Fire Night" with the first 2000 fans receiving an Ice Dogs' cap. The Fresno Falcons roll into town on Sunday at 5pm for the "Mascot Olympics" and a team autograph session immediately following the game.
