
Gladiators Fall to Everblades 5-2

The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 5-2 decision to the Florida Everblades on Wednesday night at the Germain Arena. Scott Mifsud pushed his league leading point streak to 18 games but it wasn't enough to help the Gladiators past the Everblades in the loss. Gwinnett falls to 29-17-6 on the year.
Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:02 mark of the first period as David Brine was able to jam the puck past Gladiators netminder Dave Caruso out of a pile up in front of the net for the goal. Adam Taylor and Ernie Hartlieb hooked up to pick up the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Dustin Johner pushed the Everblades lead to 2-0 on the power play. Hartlieb added his second assist of the game on the goal while Franklin MacDonald also had an assist on the power play goal for the Everblades. The tally came at the 14:30 mark of the first period.
Brad Schell cut the Everblades lead in half with his 22nd goal of the season on the power play. Schell ripped a slapshot over the shoulder of Everblades netminder Craig Kowalski from the right wing shoulder for the power play goal. Scott Mifsud and Jim Jackson had the assists on the goal for the Gladiators at 7:13 of the second period.
Just 22 seconds later, Andy Contois tied the game at two with his 15th goal of the season. Contois batted a rebound out of the air and past Kowalski for the goal at the 7:35 mark of the second period. Jamie Milam had an assist on the goal for the Gladiators punching the puck on net to set up the marker. Jon Sitko also had an assist on the goal.
John Lehun scored what proved to be the game winner shorthaned for the Everblades at the 6:28 mark of the third period. Lehun finished a 2-on-1 break with Dustin Johner for the goal.
Adam Taylor pushed the Everblades lead to 4-2 as he slipped past the Gladiators defense and beat Caruso on a breakaway. Steve Czech collected an assist on the goal as he sprung Taylor on the break. Ryan VanBuskirk also had an assist on the goal at the 14:50 mark of the third period for the Everblades.
Lehun added an empty net goal at the 19:47 mark of the third period to put the game away for the Everblades. Ryan Brindley posted an assist on the goal for Florida.
Caruso finished with 23 saves for the Gladiators in the loss. Gwinnett posted one power play goal on four chances while Florida went 1-for-7 on the power play.
